Sony’s 24-hour anime channel Animax Asia will launch outside Japan for the first time after the cult success of Sony-owned AXN Asia’s extensive anime programming.
Animax Asia will bow in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia in January, said Sony Pictures Television Intl. senior VP of international networks, Asia, Todd Miller, on Wednesday.
Based in Singapore, Animax Asia is a collaboration between SPTV teams in Singapore and Tokyo.
“In Asia there are some 94 million TV viewers of anime,” Miller said. “We’ve been enormously successful with AXN, and we will leverage our experience in the region to replicate the same success for Animax Asia.”
