JOHANNESBERG — Sithengi, the annual Southern African Intl. Film & Television Market, is broadening its role to promote the African industry worldwide and help find production financing.
The change was announced at the launch of the mart’s eighth edition, to be held Nov. 13-16 in Cape Town. Sithengi has set up an information agency on its Web site, http://www.sithengi.co.za
Chief executive Mike Auret says Sithengi aims to become a unique information resource, publicizing African producers and product internationally. It also will have information for local producers about the needs of international commissioning editors, financiers and co-producers.
Auret hopes the initiative will maintain the momentum generated by the successful 2002 market, which attracted more than 1,600 delegates from 43 countries.
