‘Simpsons’ tops weak Sunday

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

“The Simpsons” was the No. 1 show in adults 18-49 on an overall tepid Sunday for the broadcast nets, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

Fox won the night with a mere 3.5 rating in adults 18-49, led by “The Simpsons” (5.0/15 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall), “Malcolm in the Middle” (4.3/11 in adults 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall) and “Oliver Beene” (4.1/11 in adults 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall). At 9:30, though, “The Pitts” (3.0/8 in adults 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall) left the net third in the demo.

CBS had a stronger than usual Sunday, moving up to third in adults 18-49 thanks to a Masters golf overrun and a special repeat of “CSI.” Individual program scores for the net’s programs are a bit shaky due to the roughly 20-minute golf overrun, but from 9:20-10:20, “CSI” grabbed roughly a 3.3 rating among adults 18-49.

NBC was led by a repeat “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (4.2/11 in adults 18-49, 11.2 million viewers overall) and an original “Boomtown” (3.5/10 in adults 18-49, 9 million viewers overall).

ABC had a sluggish night but was led by a repeat of “Dr. Dolittle” (2.5/8 in adults 18-49).

Preliminary 18-49 averages: Fox, 3.5/10; NBC, 3.2/9; CBS, 3.0/8; ABC, 2.4/7.

In total viewers: CBS led with roughly 11.4 million.
