Fledgling cable net Si TV has greenlit reality show “Urban Jungle.”
Skein, part comedy, part social experiment, will challenge 13 contestants to survive in East Los Angeles for a $100,000 prize.
Channel is currently casting for contestants. Participants will be selected based on their social class and their lack of exposure to urban elements. On the show, they will reinvent themselves as barrio residents– riding public transportation and living on minimum wage.
Contestants will be assigned a local Padrino to look after them. In each episode, the Padrinos will gather to evict a contestant from the show.
“While indirectly providing commentary on U.S. society, the program provides limitless humor and entertainment for the audience,” said Jeff Valdez, the channel’s co-founder and chair. “Biff, Buffy and Chip, welcome to the barrio.”
Si TV launches in late 2003, featuring Latino-themed programming in English. Channel will initially be carried on the Dish Network.
