RTL Group, Europe’s biggest commercial broadcaster, may take over leading news channel N-TV next year following an agreement with AOL Time Warner.
RTL confirmed recent media reports that it had inked a first-buy option for the 50% in N-TV owned by AOL Time Warner between 2004 and 2007. A price would depend on market conditions at the given time.
RTL bought a 47% stake in loss-making N-TV from German publisher Holtzbrinck last year for around 100 million euros ($106 million). The Berlin-based web made an operating loss of $16 million on sales of $77 million in 2001.
