WARSAW — Polish TV viewers, who had only two state channels 10 years ago, now have an ever-wider choice as the two largest commercial stations expand their offering.
ITI Group’s TVN has TVN7, TVN24 (news only), TVNMeteo and plans to launch ITVN and a health and beauty channel. Polsat has launched Polsat 4 and is setting up Polsat Sport and an overseas channel.
By the end of the year, eight more themed Polish-language channels are expected.
Other operators also are active: HBO is preparing Spectrum, the AXN action movie channel and HBOIII. The fall should see the launch of Comedy from Zone Vision. The Polish version of Planete Thalassa from Multithematique will launch next year.
New players also are entering the market. Comtica, a software producer, will set up an interactive channel in the summer — 4fun.tv. It includes interactive blocks, plus entertainment and videoclips on demand. Kino Polska, devoted to Polish movie classics, will debut in the fall.
