Group oversees funding for cultural Canadian arts

TORONTO — Cash-strapped industryites have been cheered by the news that respected TV vet Trina McQueen has been appointed to the board of directors of funding body Telefilm Canada.

McQueen has extensive contacts in TV and government and many hope she will draw attention to that fact that dwindling coin is contributing to an industry-wide crisis in local TV production.

A veteran of private and public television broadcasting in Canada, both in front of and behind the camera, McQueen has also sat on the boards of many industry organizations, including the Banff Television Festival and the Canadian Television Fund. She was inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame by the Canadian Assn. of Broadcasters in 2002.

Telefilm Canada is a government cultural body that funds indigenous film, television, radio and new media reflecting Canada’s cultural heritage.
