Show has become more explicit amid ratings battle

BUDAPEST — Hungary’s Radio and TV Board (ORTT) reprimanded national commercial network RTL Klub after two gay competitors discussed anal sex on its highly rated primetime reality show “Real World” (Valo Vilag).

RTL Klub sacked “Real World” producer and network creative director Attila Arpa. RTL general manager Dirk Gerkens apologized in a newspaper article and said “Real World” would be better monitored.

The row comes as no surprise to TV industryites. SBS-controlled network TV2’s “Big Brother” and RTL Klub’s “Real World” have been fighting for viewers since the fall by becoming ever-more sexually daring.

RTL Klub was taken off the air for 15 minutes in October when “Real World” featured explicit material.
