KarstadtQuelle drafts DSF channel

EM.TV, Hans-Deter Cleven expected to join with buyer

BERLIN — German retail chain KarstadtQuelle reportedly acquired sports channel DSF from bankrupt TV group Kirch Media on Friday.

The deal, reportedly made for north of $20 million, has yet to be confirmed by Kirch Media or KarstadtQuelle.

Cash-strapped kidvidder EM.TV and Swiss investor Hans-Deter Cleven are expected to partner with KarstadtQuelle on the channel. KarstadtQuelle is also set to acquire Kirch Media’s technical service provider Plazamedia and its Internet platform Sport 1.

Haim Saban, who recently won a $2 billion bid for Kirch Media’s ProSiebenSat.1 broadcasting group and film licensing business, was also said to have been interested in DSF. The channel was not part of ProSiebenSat.1, which controls five outlets.

The web is one of the last remaining TV assets of the former Kirch empire, which collapsed last year.
