'Special Report' anchor's deal keeps him through 2005

Fox News has reupped chief Washington correspondent and anchor Brit Hume.

The 59-year-old anchor of the 6 p.m. program “Special Report” has inked a deal that will keep him at the net through 2005.

His Beltway gabber averages 1.1 million viewers and is in the top five most-watched programs on cable news.

One of the first well-known network personalities to cross over to cable, seven-year net vet Hume will receive a reported $8 million for his new contract.

Hume previously worked for 23 years at ABC News.

His additional responsibility of anchoring major political coverage will continue.
