Fox wows on Wednesday

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

Fox captured every half-hour in adults 18-49 on Wednesday on its way to a convincing victory, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen. Most impressive was the week-three perf from laffer “Wanda at Large,” which won its 9:30 for a third straight week – and, for the first time, without “American Idol” as a direct lead-in.

“Wanda at Large” (5.9/15 in adults 18-49, 12.1 million viewers overall) held on to most of its lead-in from “Bernie Mac” (6.8/17 in adults 18-49, 13.8 million viewers overall), which returned after a two-week hiatus and delivered some of its best scores ever. In the night’s opening hour, both “That ’70s Show” (5.5/16 in adults 18-49, 10.8 million viewers overall) and “American Idol” (9.1/24 in adults 18-49, 18.6 million viewers overall) dominated their slots.

The prelim nationals for each of Fox’s shows will be adjusted slightly, as “Idol” ran from 8:31-9:02 and “Bernie Mac” from 9:02 to 9:32.

ABC ran second on the night as “The Bachelor” (5.2/13 in adults 18-49, 10.8 million viewers overall) inched up in its second week and was runner-up behind Fox in the 9 o’clock hour in key demos. Net also placed second in the night’s other half-hours, including a solid 3.7/11 at 8 for “My Wife and Kids.”

NBC was led by a repeat of “Law & Order” (4.3/12 in adults 18-49), which led at 10. “60 Minutes II” (3.2/8 in adults 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall) paced CBS.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 6.8/18; ABC, 4.2/11; NBC, 3.2/9; CBS, 2.7/7.
