Fox rocks; NBC gets laughs

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

Fox cruised to another Tuesday victory behind “American Idol” and “24” but NBC made some noise of its own with decent scores for its “Great Women of Television Comedy” special and a credible start for the second-season premiere of “Watching Ellie.”

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “Idol” (8.5/25 in adults 18-49, 19.4 million viewers overall), although down about 10% week-to-week, again defeated the combined ABC-CBS-Fox competition. And “24” (5.6/14 in adults 18-49, 12 million viewers overall) led at 9.

At NBC, “Great Women of TV” (3.0/8 in adults 18-49) built throughout its 90 minutes, placing second at 9 (3.9/10). “Watching Ellie” (3.4/9) followed with a solid 87% hold of that audience, and “Dateline” picked up to a second-place finish at 10 (3.8/10).

ABC was led by “NYPD Blue” (4.3/12 in adults 18-49, 10.7 million viewers overall), which led at 10 in key demos. “Judging Amy” (3.2/9 in adults 18-49, 12 million viewers overall) paced CBS, building sharply on a repeat of “The Guardian.”

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 7.0/19; NBC, 3.3/9; ABC, 3.2/9; CBS, 2.3/6.

In total viewers: Fox led with 15.7 million.
