LONDON – U.K. commercial web Five has picked up U.S. series “Alias,” starring Jennifer Garner (“Daredevil,” “Catch Me If You Can”) and Victor Garber (“Titanic”) from Buena Vista International Television.
Series two and three will be broadcast on Five later this year and joins other U.S. series bought by director of acquisitions Jeff Ford such as “CSI,” “CSI Miami,” “Boomtown” and “The Shield.”
Channel 4 broadcast the first series in the fall, which delivered average audiences of 1.1 million at 5:30 pm on Saturdays. The second series is currently airing on entertainment web Sky One on Wednesdays at 9 pm, achieving 8 million viewers, a sizeable audience for the paybox.
In “Alias” Garner plays graduate student Sidney Bristow, who leads a double life working as an agent for both the CIA and the shadowy organization SD-6. Series proved popular in the U.S. on ABC drawing an average of 9.9 million viewers and has been licensed in 166 international markets, according to BVITV.
“Alias” was created by J.J. Abrams (“Felicity”) who is also the exec producer along with co-exec producers Ken Olin (“thirtysomething”) and John Eisendrath (“Felicity”). Touchstone Television is producing.
