CBS News exec Lyne Pitts, who helped fashion the new rendition of the “The Early Show,” has been tapped to serve as senior broadcast producer on the Eye’s evening newscast.
Pitts will replace Wayne Nelson at “Evening News With Dan Rather.” Nelson will head for “60 Minutes II,” serving as producer for correspondent Vicki Mabrey.
As exec producer of the weekday ayem show, Pitts was responsible for developing and launching the new version, along with senior exec producer Michael Bass.
Since bowing in October 2002, “The Early Show” has become the fastest-growing network morning program.
CBS News prexy Andrew Heyward said the changes would be effective in late July.
“I’m very pleased that two of CBS News’ brightest producers are moving into new and important roles. Lyne’s broad-based experience in daily news and in primetime, combined with her superb talents as a producer, make her a terrific addition to the CBS Evening News management team,” Heyward said.
“Wayne has covered some of the biggest stories in the nation and the world over the past two decades,” continued Heyward. “His natural news instincts combined with his proven record as a storyteller make him a perfect fit for ’60 Minutes II.’ “
