‘ER,’ ‘Survivor’ top Thursday

NBC prevailed on Thursday in the key demo of adults 18-49 behind a strong delivery for “ER,” while CBS won the night in total viewers with “Survivor” and repeats of its crime dramas, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

NBC drama “ER” (9.6/24 in adults 18-49, 20.8 million viewers overall) was the evening’s top show in 18-49, topping the combined scores of CBS repeat drama “Without a Trace” (4.6/12 in 18-49, 13.8 million viewers) and ABC’s “Primetime” (2.6/7 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers). The Peacock also received strong firstrun comedy results from a special “Tracy Morgan” at 8:30 (5.5/14 in 18-49, 11.6 million viewers) as well as the 9 o’clock hour’s “Will & Grace” (7.5/19 in 18-49, 14.4 million viewers) and “Scrubs” (6.4/15 in 18-49, 12.4 million viewers).

At CBS, “Survivor” delivered some of its strongest numbers of the fall (8.0/22 in 18-49, 22.0 million viewers), easily leading the 8 o’clock hour in most categories. And from 9 to 10, a repeat of “CSI” (7.5/18 in 18-49, 21.9 million viewers) led in most categories.

Not much was happening at either ABC or Fox. In their battle of first-year dramas, Fox’s “Tru Calling” (1.9/5 in adults 18-49, 4.9 million viewers) got the best of ABC’s “Threat Matrix” in 18-49 (1.7/5), while the latter drew more viewers overall (6.6 million).

Prelim 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 7.5/19; CBS, 6.7/17; ABC, 2.4/6; UPN, 2.1/5; Fox, 2.0/5; WB, 1.2/3.

In total viewers: CBS led with 19.2 million.
