Indian pubcaster Doordarshan (DD) plans to launch a direct-to-home service in the next six months, subject to government approval, which it expects to get at the end of this month. The pubcaster has earmarked $100 million for the project.
With DD entering the arena, the DTH scene is heating up. Subhash Chandra’s Zee entertainment network has applied for two DTH projects and Rupert Murdoch’s Star TV has applied for a DTH license through subsid Space TV. Both have yet to be cleared by the government.
