MADRID — Portuguese indie TV producer NBP has launched a Spanish subsid, NBP Iberica, and inked a three-year exclusive co-production pact with Spanish indie Videomedia.
NBP and Videomedia aim to produce family-skewed long-running fiction series for Spanish terrestrial webs.
Both shingles have produced drama hits in their local markets, NBP with “Olhos de Agua” (Eyes of Water), Videomedia with emergency room skein “Hospital Central.”
The duo are now fielding three series: a Spanish version of “Olhos,” “Super Papa” and the telenovela “Angel salvaje.” “Super” and “Angel” are based on Argentinean formats.
“Having led much of primetime on Portuguese broadcasters, the next natural step was the Spanish market,” NBP Iberica director Rosa Lousa told Daily Variety. NBP is also eyeing a move into Brazil.
NBP Iberica is acquiring Spanish drama formats for the Portuguese market. It recently picked up Portuguese remake rights on TVE1 smash hit “Ana y los siete” and has an option on a second TVE rating roller, “Cuentame como paso.”
