Cabler reaches out to young, rich auds

BUDAPEST — Balkan Bulgarian Television (BBT), a new national cable channel aimed at the lucrative teen and young adult market, bowed this month in Bulgaria.

BBT management says its short-term focus is to bring viewers hip news and current affairs programming. However, it will be modeled on Blighty’s BBC pubcaster rather than going tabloid. BBT’s morning program “Teleutro” will feature news, talk and a lineup of nine charasmatic presenters.

The channel will be beamed over the Thor 3 satellite to cable distribs. BBT is owned by the PM Group, which is active in wine and tourism, and businessman Peter Mandjukov, publisher of Bulgaria’s Duma newspaper.
