HOLLYWOOD — SUV-hating Arianna Huffington will write her next book, “Fanatics and Fools,” for Miramax Books in a low-seven-figure deal.
Huffington, whose new book will attack GOP leaders as an “elite Republican Guard,” is also working with Miramax to develop a television show.
“It’s going to be taking the Republicans on as fanatics, and one of the defining traits of fanaticism is an utter imperviousness to facts,” Huffington told Daily Variety.
Huffington will also blame Democrats as “fools” who have enabled the Republicans by failing to challenge them on foreign and economic policy.
“Fanatics and Fools” is skedded for spring 2004 publication.
Huffington, a former Republican, has in recent years shifted to the left, attacking her former party’s economic and foreign policies and taking on causes, such as teaming with Rob Reiner to blast SUVs as gas-guzzlers — an issue more identified with Democrats.
Miramax co-chair Harvey Weinstein is also identified with Democrats, most notably assisting the campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Al Gore.
Huffington said she’s still registered as an independent.
One reason Huffington said she signed on with Miramax is that she’s interested in developing a TV show with the company. “We’re working on taking this political sensibility to different media, and that’s why I’m working with Miramax,” she said.
Television plans are still in early stages, but Huffington ruled out trying for a cable news show. “I have zero interest in doing a straight talkshow,” she said.
Huffington was repped by Gotham-based Arthur Pine Associates.
