Scribe/director inspired by reality TV
HOLLYWOOD — It was reality check time at the WGA Oct. 22 as Lions Gate unspooled “Survivor” host Jeff Probst‘s feature writing and helming debut “Finder’s Fee” ahead of its video bow this past Tuesday.
Probst said “Finder’s Fee” got its greenlight the day he began taping the first season of “Survivor,” and he reworked the pic’s ending after watching Richard Hatch outwit, outplay and outlast Kelly Wiglesworth to win $1 million.
“It’s just watching ethics play out,” he said of his pic’s central conflict: “how you affect a change based on one incident.”
Also on hand for the screening and cocktail reception were the pic’s star Robert Forster and producer Katy Wallin, plus Lions Gate exec Peter Block.
The reality TV contingent included “Survivor” contestant Colby Donaldson, “Amazing Race” host Phil Keoghan plus Beau Wolf and Dave Kerpen of “Paradise Hotel,” but many guests were abuzz hoping to catch a glimpse of Donaldson’s “Survivor” rival, Jerri Manthey, who was on the guest list but didn’t show.
