At the UCLA Wadsworth Theater launch for his Tony-winning “Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam,” the hip-hop mogul said he was drawn to poetry because “it’s people reaching inside, speaking about higher aspirations.”

Simmons added: “I’ve got a financial services company that’s exploding. I should be working on that, but I love doing this.”
