Dua deal with family ties at fundraiser

Ruben Dua may have been running the show at the April 12 “Bollywood Calling” fundraiser, but he still had to answer to his mother.

Mom nagged that festivities were off to a late start, a fitting comment considering the evening’s screenings — 1979 Bollywood classic “Qurbani,” “Devdas” and the filmmaker’s upcoming short — all deal with the complexity of family ties.

“Indian cinema has been a great inspiration for me because it deals with familial drama, conflict and rebirth,” Dua said. ” ‘Moment of Silence’ is all about that.”
