Impromptu concert rocks fest

Aerosmith shows up at Sarasota soiree

The Sarasota Film Festival may be only 5 years old, but it parties like a grownup.

Ten-day event wrapped up Feb. 1, with an awards ceremony and back-to-back bashes. Evening began with a career achievement tribute to Richard Dreyfuss.

Afterward, music producer Jack Douglas was saluted for his own achievements in music and film. Crowd of more than 1,000 was treated to an impromptu Aerosmith concert that night, with band serenading Douglas in a four-song set. Thesp Rain Phoenix and her band the Paper Cranes also performed.

Among those at the festival: William H. Macy, Elmer Bernstein, Olympia Dukakis and Todd Haynes.
