Animal habitat raises money with show, adoptions
HOLLYWOOD — Celebrity pooches stayed cool in designer accessories on a dog day afternoon March 30 in Santa Monica.
The Lint Roller Party at the Santa Monica Airport, featured a “Best in Show” spoof and auction to raise bucks for Los Angeles’ Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, a habitat for abandoned and abused animals.
Show, judged by Dave Foley and Cloris Leachman, featured stars and their real canines, as well as some up for adoption. “If Cloris Leachman can’t make you feel guilty, then no one can,” noted pet parader Eric McCormack.
Mike Weatherly and his dog Murray took home top dog honors, with McCormack and Marisa Ramirez nudging into second and third respectively. Winners each received $5,000 cash grants from helmer Wolfgang Petersen, producer Hawk Koch, and Best Friends to be later presented to local humane orgs.
Others in the shmooze included Allison Janney, James Cromwell, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Mindy Sterling, and Tori Spelling.
