HOLLYWOOD — Sony’s PlayStation 2 division kicked off this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo with a beach bash at the boutique Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica on Tuesday night.
Event lived up to PlayStation’s previous lavish parties catering to Hollywood’s young players.
Night’s “Playa Del PlayStation” theme transformed the Viceroy with cabanas, bikini-clad models, lifeguards, beachballs, mermaids floating in a pool, and enough sand to fill partygoers’ shoes.
Naturally, PlayStation showed off its lineup of videogames, but with a twist: Company’s gaming consoles were housed inside fish tanks.
Rap star 50 Cent hit the stage, performing a short set of songs for the crowd. And although Eminem was set to surprise auds with a guest appearance, bigger surprise came when Slim Shady bowed out. Tight guestlist consisted of young celebs, musicians, athletes and other industryites (PlayStation hosts a separate event at Los Angeles Center Studios tonight for E3 goers).
Among those making their way down the red carpet: Leonardo DiCaprio, Owen Wilson, director Michael Bay, Ashley Scott, Kelly Osbourne, Linkin Park’s Joseph Hahn and Chester Bennington, skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, the Rock, Christian Slater, Jeremy Piven, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, Nick Lachey, Shane West, O-Town’s Erik-Michael Estrada, Eve, Big Boy, John Salley, Andy Dick and Patrick Fugit.
