Thursday’s Cinerama Dome preem of “What a Girl Wants” was as tween as its target aud. Parents brought their daughters, but the film unspooled at night and the after-party was at a nearby club. So the whole scene looked like an underage teen rave the parents crashed.
Director Dennie Gordon said she wanted to make “a more sophisticated kid movie” while producer Denise Di Novi cited “Princess Diaries” and its family appeal. And producer Bill Gerber admitted his family — specifically his daughters — had a lot to do with the casting of Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes. “If I had boys, I wouldn’t know who she was,” he said.
Among those on hand were Warners’ Jeff Robinov, Dan Fellman, Jessica Goodman and Kevin McCormick; producers Di Novi, Hunt Lowry and Gerber; and stars Colin Firth and Kelly Preston.
