LONDON — Young Brit thesps Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley sailed into the European premiere of “Pirates of the Carribbean” at London’s Odeon Leicester Square July 14.
Hobbit heartthrob Bloom signed autographs for over half an hour and had to be whisked away from his fans to speak to the waiting media. Eighteen year old Knightley, who starred in the U.K. smash “Bend It Like Beckham,” appeared as dazzled as her fans. “This is my first big London premiere and it’s amazing — I can’t believe the reception,” she told the assembled throng. Knightley wore $810,000 worth of Asprey diamonds and a black Alexander McQueen corset not unlike the type she sports in “Pirates.” She admitted “it is very tight, but it gives you a fabulous cleavage. I couldn’t resist it.”
Helmer Gore Verbinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Mackenzie Crook and Jack Davenport were all in attendance, along with Dermot Mulroney, Joel Schumacher — in town for the bow of “Veronica Guerin,” another Bruckheimer production — and Helena Christiansen.
