Filmmaker Kevin McCarthy and his wife, classical pianist-singer and interior designer Diana Gong McCarthy, were two of the victims in the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market car crash Wednesday July 16. He was 50 and she was 41. Her father, a chef visiting from New York, was injured by the out-of-control car that killed eight others and hurt dozens more. The three had been shopping for food for a special meal that night.
Kevin had just finished his first full-length feature film, self-financed “The Rouge Shoes.” His wife, who had a fine arts degree from the New York Institute of Technology, was working part-time at the Skirball Cultural Center.
Francesco Mazzini, who stars in the film, remembered McCarthy as knowledgable, creative and articulate. Gong McCarthy was remembered as bright, funny, poised and knowlegable.
