Graham P. Jarvis, longtime character actor best known for his role as neighbor Charlie Haggers in the 1970s series “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” but who also appeared more recently in “7th Heaven” and “Six Feet Under,” died Wednesday April 16 of multiple myeloma at his home in Pacific Palisades. He was 72.

Toronto native began acting at 19 in a production of “The Seven Year Itch” in Virginia and attended Williams College before moving to New York City in the 1950s, where he pursued a theater career, studied acting at the American Theater Wing and was an original member of the Lincoln Center Repertory Theater. Roles included ones in productions of “The Best Man,” “Much Ado About Nothing,” “The Rocky Horror Show” and many more.

He also taught English to youths at Camp Holton juvenile rehabilitation and probation center in the San Fernando Valley, and he sang in his church choir.

He is survived by wife JoAnna Rader, two children and a sister.

In recognition of his community activism, family suggested donations be made to his favorite charities: Common Cause and Amnesty Intl. Or the Democratic National Committee.
