Fred Facey, 72, an offscreen announcer for the “Today” show and several other NBC broadcasts, April 13 of cancer in New York.

Facey had worked at NBC since 1967. In addition to “Today,” his voice was heard on “Meet the Press,” CNBC’s “News with Brian Williams,” and weekend “Today” and “Nightly News” broadcasts.

“His warm baritone greets you every morning, but you should know that the man behind the voice was truly kind with a wonderful sense of humor, a jump in his step and a smile for everyone,” said “Today” anchor Matt Lauer in announcing Facey’s death April 16.

Facey’s voice had also been heard on “Saturday Night Live” and Carson Daly’s latenight talkshow.
