Exec to advise on biz practices, regulatory policies
Dean Marks has been promoted to senior VP, intellectual property, corporate business development and strategy, at Warner Bros. Entertainment.
In his new position, Marks will serve as a senior adviser to the studio on all intellectual property issues, including general business practices, positioning on domestic and international legislation and regulatory policy, anti-piracy efforts and content protection technology.
“Copyright protection is crucial to the viability of all content businesses. With his extensive background and expertise in IP rights and legislation, Dean is uniquely suited to guide our efforts in this very important arena,” said Kevin Tsujihara, exec VP, corporate business development and strategy at Warner Bros. Entertainment, to whom Marks reports.
Marks moves into this key position after having served as senior counsel, intellectual property, for AOL Time Warner’s corporate legal department for eight years.
Before that, he served as VP of legal affairs for Time Warner, based in Brussels, where he advised and lobbied on European Union legislation with a focus on intellectual property and media issues. Marks has also been a director of legal affairs for both Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Prior to joining Warner Bros., he was an associate at the Los Angeles law firm Tuttle & Taylor.
