Net pacts for development, pilot greenlight
CBS has made a three-for-one drama pilot production commitment to Sarah Timberman’s Warner Bros. TV-based 25C Prods., which is off to a fast start in its first development season.Under the terms of the non-exclusive deal, Eye has agreed to develop three hourlong drama scripts with 25C, guaranteeing a pilot production greenlight for at least one of them. It’s the first major development deal for the shingle, which was launched in June and is headed by prexy-CEO Timberman and production prez Carl Beverly. Shingle has set up projects with scribes Cynthia Cidre (“Mambo Kings”), Theresa Rebeck (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) and playwright Willie Reale (“A Year With Frog and Toad”) that are being targeted to serve as the three scripts to be developed by CBS under the three-for-one pact. Thomas Carter (“Save the Last Dance”) is in discussions to direct the Cidre project. Timberman said she and Beverly, who worked together at Universal Network Television when Timberman was prexy of the studio, were glad to be back in business with the Eye. “Carl and I both have had tremendously happy and productive experiences at CBS over many years,” she told Daily Variety. “We enjoy a great creative shorthand with them. They’re direct, they’re smart, they’re creative, they’re aggressive. They really know what they want.” As for the three projects, Timberman said Rebeck’s hour will be “a strong character-based New York-set P.I. series about a reluctant hero.” In addition to “L&O,” Rebeck’s credits include “NYPD Blue” and last year’s ABC pilot script “The First.” Cidre, whose feature credits include “A Thousand Acres” and “In Country,” is penning a suspense series about the LAPD’s fugitive-apprehension team. And Reale, who has written several NBC pilot scripts, is working on a father-son medical drama. As for 25C’s other non-CBS development, Timberman said it’s “all over the map. We’re identifying a few more drama projects, and then we’ll turn our attention to comedy. We’re picking the ones we’re passionate about.” Timberman and Beverly have tapped Annie Parnell and Chris Leanza to serve as managers of development for the company, which is repped by CAA and Ernie Del. Carter, Rebeck and Reale also are repped by CAA, while Cidre is repped by WMA.
