Sky News fined over phony story

World Brief

The Independent Television Commission has fined Sky News £50,000 ($87,700) over a bogus report from a Royal Navy submarine during the war with Iraq.

The ITC found reporter James Forlong’s story breached accuracy rules.

His March 21 report described firing a cruise missile and implied the TV footage was from the conflict. It emerged in July that the pictures were from file stock and the submarine was docked.

Forlong, 44, an award-winning reporter who had worked at Sky News for 10 years, lost his job and committed suicide in October.
