Media exec to help expand, evolve enterprise

NEW YORK — Jeff Sagansky has added another board seat to his executive furniture, as the recently departed Paxson Communications vice chairman has been elected to the board of directors of the E.W. Scripps Co. The TV station, newspaper and cable network outfit is expanding its board by one to 12 members.

“Jeff Sagansky is a talented media executive who has successfully strengthened and developed several television networks,” Scripps prexy and CEO Kenneth W. Lowe, said in a statement. “His talent, experience and integrity will be put to good use as we continue to expand and evolve this 125-year-old media enterprise.”

Sagansky, 51, who helped launch PAX-TV in 1998, was previously co-president of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and before that, prexy of CBS Entertainment.

“Scripps is the rarest of companies — one with a long tradition of excellence combined with entrepreneurial flair,” Sagansky said. “It’s an expertly managed company, and I’m looking forward to serving as a director.”

Scripps operates 21 daily newspapers, 10 broadcast TV stations, four cable program nets and a home shopping network.

Its cable brands include Home & Garden Television and Food Network, which reach roughly 80 million U.S. homes.

With sluggish growth from its newspaper and TV station units, Scripps has high aspirations for its faster-growing cable network group.

Sagansky, who also sits on the board of Lions Gate Entertainment, has yet to nail down a new full-time post.
