French exec replaces Campillo as No. 2 at prod'n co.
MADRID — One of Spain’s most prominent film and TV production companies, BocaBoca Producciones, has tapped French exec Waheb Lekhal as managing director.
Lekhal replaces Manuel Campillo and has become BocaBoca prexy Cesar Benitez’s effective numero dos.
The 36-year-old Lekhal, who started Oct. 1, will bring an extensive knowledge of the European film and TV market to BocaBoca.
Lekhal joined the international direction division of France’s Canal Plus Group in 1995. He moved to Spain in 2000 to work as an assistant to Jose Manuel Lorenzo, the general director of Spain’s popular premium pay TV service Canal Plus Espana.
“One of my objectives at BocaBoca is to strike co-production agreements, alliances and format exchange with companies in Europe, especially France, Italy and the U.K.,” Lekhal told Daily Variety.
BocaBoca produces Spain’s most successful gameshow, “Pasapalabra,” as well as primetime cop drama “El comisario.”
BocaBoca’s renewed film ambitions include the E7 million ($8.3 million) pic “El hijo enamorado,” to be directed by Manuel Gomez Pereira (“Boca a Boca”), which is skedded to shoot in Tunisia in 2004.
