World Brief

Romania has axed plans to build a $30 million Dracula movie theme park in the medieval metropolis of Sighisoara, costing Universal Studios a fortune in royalties.

Two years ago, when Romania announced plans to cash in on its famous son, U demanded royalties if any images from its seven Dracula films shot between 1930 and 1960 were used. However, plans to build a theme park at the birthplace of 15th century count Vlad Tepes, the historic Dracula, have been nixed by a feasibility study from PricewaterhouseCoopers, due to shortcomings in transportation, infrastructure and accessibility.

The Romanian tourist ministry is considering other sites near Bucharest and on the Black Sea coast.
