Corus backs off Edge TV

The music stops for net after two years

MONTREAL — Canuck broadcaster Corus Entertainment is shuttering its musicvideo channel Edge TV. The digital service will close effective this summer.

“After nearly two years of operation, the challenges of obtaining sufficient cable satellite carriage for Edge TV remain a significant obstacle to the long-term success of the service,” said Corus Television president Paul Robertson.

“While we remain committed to digital television in Canada … we must look at which of our services have a reasonable chance of success in the current market and which programming genres are being well-served by other players,” he said.

Corus also announced it has inked a deal with Chum Television’s MuchLoud musicvid channel under which MuchLoud will work in partnership with two Corus-owned radio stations — CFOX in Vancouver and the Edge in Toronto.
