BiH courts sub fees

World Brief

Cash-strapped Bosnian state broadcaster BiH Federation Television is taking 180,000 viewers to court to collect on $5 million in unpaid subscription fees.

Media analysts said this will do much to cure the network’s financial problems. BiH TV fees are about $3 a month and are paid through the electricity bill of each household.

But 180,000 Bosnians have dodged the costs by paying power charges with bank orders that allow them to separate electricity and TV sub payments. BiH TV is Bosnia-Herzegovina’s primary public broadcaster and the only terrestrial network available in many rural centers.
