Zinkia, Carlton ink preschool deal

Mipcom 2003 Brief

Spain’s Zinkia Entertainment has inked a co-production deal with Carlton Intl. for the preschool 3-D CGI “Pocoyo.” The series’ 52 episodes will each be seven minutes long.

U.K. broadcaster ITV has also confirmed its commitment to the toon project.

Series follows the adventures of Pocoyo, a child with an immense curiosity about the world around him.

With Carlton on board, “Pocoyo” will enter production this fall, with delivery of 26 episodes skedded by fourth quarter 2004, said Justin Hatfield, responsible for international co-production and distribution at Zinkia.

Deal is a coup for the 2-year-old Madrid-based Zinkia Entertainment, which will take Spain, Italy, Portugal and Latin America on “Pocoyo.” Carlton handles the rest of the world.
