Freshman laffer's future may be in question
NBC is pulling Thursday night’s edition of “Coupling” in order to give an extra promo push to “Whoopi” — a move that has industry insiders speculating about the future of the former skein.
Peacock will air Tuesday night’s episode of “Whoopi” at 9:30 Thursday following an original episode of “Will & Grace.” Move is designed to give added exposure to “Whoopi” and, perhaps more importantly, to see how well it can hold on to the “Will & Grace” lead-in.
But with NBC already having announced plans to pull “Coupling” on Oct. 30 in order to “supersize” three other veteran laffers, some wags wonder if the Peacock may be getting ready to move “Coupling” to a different night or pull it completely. NBC insiders, however, insist no decisions have been made about “Coupling” beyond Oct. 30.
NBC has several backup comedy options. It could double-pump one of its veteran laffers or bring on “The Tracy Morgan Show” in November. Net also has the reality skein “Average Joe” on its bench.
