Westerns make a comeback

Marking the 100th anni of the movie Western, Cableready has teamed up with producer Media Entertainment to offer “Golden Saddles, Silver Spurs” to international buyers. This historical entertainment doc will be available in December as two hourlong episodes.

“Golden Saddles” begins in the early silent days, taking viewers on a quick-paced ride through the history of the cowboys and Indians genre, concluding with the migration of the Western to TV in the 1950s.

Along the way, film clips and recollections turn the spotlight on such Western stars as Tom Mix and Hopalong Cassidy, singing cowboys like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, and popular sidekicks like Smiley Burnett and Gabby Hayes.

Not just an exercise in nostalgia, “Golden Saddles” takes time to examine how reality compared to the myths of the Old West conveyed onscreen and scrutinizes the role of women in the films.
