HOLLYWOOD — Universal has heavenly box office aspirations for its Jim Carrey-meets-God-becomes-God laffer “Bruce Almighty.”
“We’ve written off the atheists,” said U topper Stacey Snider, “but we’re going for every other demo.” Spyglass co-CEO Gary Barber said the pic “is going to play globally. God is everywhere.”
Revelers at Wednesday’s after-bow bash at U’s theme park talked about how delicate it is to cast the Supreme Being (and not give Him above-the-title billing — that goes to Carrey) without offending anyone.
“I’ve done the research — I’ve worked with a lot of people who think they’re God,” quipped helmer Tom Shadyac.
Among those at the bash were U’s Ron Meyer, Scott Stuber and Mary Parent; producers James Brubaker and Michael Bostick; stars Carrey, Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman; plus guests John Singleton, Kelly Preston, Kevin Misher, Dan Aloni, Roger Corman, David Colden, Dick Clark, Nick Reed, Jonathan McHugh and Rodney Dangerfield.
