Pol rejects demands for delays
WASHINGTON — For the second time in the last month, Rep. W.J. “Billy” Tauzin (R-La.) has backed FCC Commissioner Michael Powell’s commitment to wrap up the work on the media ownership rulemaking by the June 2 deadline.
Tauzin was responding to a barrage of letters senators on the Commerce panel sent Powell last week, urging the agency to put off the process long enough to seek more comments from the public and Congress.
Earlier this week, Powell rejected their arguments and pledged to have a decision by early June, as planned.
Tauzin applauded the move in a statement released Wednesday.
“I sincerely hope that Chairman Powell’s colleagues will follow the law and work with him to reject calls to delay the process,” he said. “The omnibus rulemaking is not an option, it is an obligation.”
