‘Stew’ simmers MTV’s Oct. rates

Kutcher-hosted skein ranked as highest-rated seg of series

MTV cooked up record highs for the net with the premiere of its new Sunday night block, “The Sunday Stew.”

Music net celebrated its highest-rated October ever in persons 12-34, thanks to the Sunday premieres and the runaway success of frosh skein “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” and mainstays “The Real World” and “Real World/Road Rules Challenge.”

Second season bow of “Punk’d” averaged a 2.8 national rating/7 share in persons 12-34 from 9 to 9:30, placing third behind ABC’s “Alias” (3.4/9) and NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (3.1/9). In teens, its 3.6/11 led the timeslot. In overall total viewers, it averaged 3.56 million. Premiere of Ashton Kutcher-hosted skein ranked as the highest-rated seg of the series.

The rest of the lineup, which included the bows of the net’s “Jackass” spinoffs and the return of “One Bad Trip,” all bowed among the top 10 basic cable shows for the week in persons 12-34.

“Viva La Bam” posted a 2.3 in 12-34, 2.5 million overall; “Wildboyz,” notched 2.0 in 12-34, 2.1 million overall; and “Trip” did a 1.7 in 12-34 and 2 million overall.
