Stern agrees to terms on NBA cabler

David Stern, commissioner of the National Basketball Assn., said for the first time that he’s ready to accept separately priced digital tiers for his rookie 24-hour cable network NBA TV.

Stern originally pitched NBA TV to MSOs (multisystem cable operators) as a basic service, asking for fairly stiff license fees. NBA TV’s current sole distributor is DirecTV. He is now predicting agreements with “virtually all the MSOs for the 2003-04 season to carry NBA TV” by Labor Day.
