Reed Midem taps tube topper

Johnson named TV division director

PARIS — The Mip and Mipcom markets in Cannes have a new topper, Paul Johnson, who was named director of the TV division by organizer Reed Midem on Monday.

Johnson comes from VNU Entertainment Media, where he was European sales and marketing director for the Hollywood Reporter. He worked at the publication for 14 years.

News of Johnson’s appointment surprised industryites who believed the post had gone to Rene Peres, a former Reed Midem TV division topper who returned temporarily to run the recent Mip TV mart.

Peres is staying with the company, Reed Midem said Monday, but has been put in charge of special projects across the range of the company’s trade fairs.

Johnson takes up his new job at the end of June. Reed Midem is a sister organization of Daily Variety, both of which are owned by Reed Elsevier.
