The Writers Guild of America West will launch an all-day symposium for nonfiction writers Saturday on the rapidly expanding world of factual film and TV.
Free event, to be held at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills at 10 a.m., is organized by the WGAW Nonfiction Writers Group and co-sponsored by Daily Variety.
“The conference is designed to bring documentary writers, producers, directors and others involved in the creation of nonfiction programming up to speed on the challenges and opportunities in the rapidly changing world of factual film and television,” said Barry Clark, co-chair of the writers group. “It is the hope of the group that the forum will promote a sense of community among nonfiction writers while contributing in significant ways to the growth of the nonfiction market.”
The WGA launched an organizing drive last month aimed at scribes working in the reality TV sector with a Nonfiction Organizing Contract — a low-cost agreement for nonfiction series on basic cable nets.
