Gods on carpet celebrate the new film

Flip-flops were the footwear of choice at Wednesday’s auction and preem of surf docu “Step Into Liquid” at the Santa Monica Pier.

On the blue carpet, surf gods such as Laird Hamilton paddled up next to Artisan execs and thesps to celebrate the new film by Dana Brown, son of original surf pic helmer-scribe Bruce Brown.

” ‘Endless Summer’ shaped the way I grew up, ‘Endless Summer II’ is where I learned how to make films,” Dana Brown said, who added that “Step” will show whether the apprenticeship worked out.

Though the sound of the film’s narrator was muddled due to technical difficulties, the scuba and aerial photography at Easter Island and Cortez Bank kept Artisan’s Steve Beeks, Glenn Ross and Amorette Jones, plus guests Cuba Gooding Jr., Eric Balfour, Chili Peppers’ Flea, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John McEnroe, Ben Lee and John C. McGinley in their seats.
