Outage hits Kodak Theater

Equipment failure causes blackout

A power outage in Hollywood on Sunday caused the temporary closure of the Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex, officials said.

The outage began around 3 a.m. and authorities restored power to the complex about 6:45 p.m., said Randy Hough, a spokesman for the Department of Power and Water.

The outage caused the Kodak Theater to cancel a matinee of the Kirov Ballet but power was back on in time for the evening show, said theater spokeswoman LeeAnne Stables.

Equipment failure on a major power line that supplies electricity to about 20 large Hollywood customers caused the blackout, Hough said. A backup high voltage line was down for maintenance when the equipment failed, but it was brought back up to restore power.

At least one apartment complex was temporarily without power, but neither individual homes nor streetlights were affected by the outage, Hough said. A construction site remained without electricity Sunday night, but power was expected to soon be restored.
