Expect to see Nick’s “The Fairly OddParents” fairly more frequently.
Nick will strip the show Monday-Friday at 8 p.m. beginning next week, shifting stalwart “SpongeBob SquarePants” to 7:30.
Now airing only on Friday night and Saturday ayem, “Fairly Odd” has been hovering in the No. 2 position behind “SpongeBob” all year. Move into the anchor slot of the weekday sked could finally push the residents of Bikini Bottom out of first place.
In July 2001, Nick introduced the 8 p.m. weekday strip of “SpongeBob.” Two months later, it became the top kiddie show across all TV. Currently, show averages 2.5 million kid viewers, while “Fairly Odd” breathes closely behind with a kid aud of 2.4 million.
“SpongeBob” shift means that perennial “Rugrats” will air at 7 p.m.
Nick programming veep Pete Danielsen doesn’t believe these changes will slow down the momentum of “SpongeBob.”
“In a kid’s life, 7:30 is critical timeslot,” said Danielsen, calling his roster an embarrassment of riches. ” ‘SpongeBob’ is on a roll; it had its best year ever, and there’s a movie coming out next year.”
“The Fairly OddParents” premiered in 2001. Show follows the misadventures of Timmy Turner and his bumbling fairy godparents. An original made-for, which aired earlier this month, brought in more than 4 million total viewers and was the top-rated pic on cable that week.
